From your mouth to god’s ears I hope!!! I would not be waiting for this to happen, but it will be interesting to see how the Insurance carriers file for increases next year. Re Insurance is not so simple and there are many layer’s of it so simply saying rates are down does not always mean rates will drop as they should. Companies will be taking on more risk and exposure so they will need more protections to be sure they remain a viable company in the future. We are seeing the availability of more carriers being available to write the business, but let’s see if we start to see rate decreases. I believe we will still see increases next year at 10-20 % and then we may start to see decreases if thew claims side continues to Improve. Profits are up for Citizens, Risk is down and the surplus now exceeds 6.4 Billion, the best in years. According to Citizens Insurance President Barry Gilway, and the actuaries that run the software they expect a 52% decline in coverage for fraudulent claims for Sinkhole which is what they expected, but the actual risk is still there and more. The 6.6% increase is for Citizens and follows the Glide path rate hike rules, but this 24% is only for people who have Sinkhole coverage and if they want to keep it. My guess is many will start to drop the coverage and deal with it if it happens?? Many questions and many more answers that still lead to more questions. The one real question is our system is so bad and controlled by Tall. that no one knows where to begin. I still affirm that you cannot deal with one problem, the system needs major overhauling. This is not liklely tgo happen anytime soon, so those of us in Fort lauderdale, S. Florida and just paying to much for Insurance, there is still no relief in sight with this Governor!!!! CFO Jeff Atwater together with the head of the OIR(Office of Insurance regulation) will start to look into this problem. The fact is that Insurance companies can buy more reinsurance to protect the assets they have in reserves and that cost can also be passed along to the Florida consumers. Governor Rick Scott will now also want to know because his re-election campaign is well under way and he will need a boost to his ratings that are terrible. If a solution can be found so South Florida will finally get some needed relief, he would be a hero. Everyone should call their Florida Senator and Congressman to make them aware of this problem soon.
